A Gravatar is comparable to an Avatar or a Favicon in as much as they all allow to personalize and to use images to attract the eye of the visitors.
The Gravatar is a formated picture linked to your email address, for the purpose of allowing to leave your image footprint when ever you leave your email address on a Gravatar enabled site. Blogs tend to be such sites, namely the comment area.
WordPress blogs are Gravatar enabled if you allow them under Settings – Discussion (scroll to the bottom of the page.
To create your Gravatar go to: Gravatar
1. Set up your account using the email address you would usually use to leave comments on sites; you will have to confirm the sign up by responding to a confirmation mail.
2. Load your picture in jpg or gif (not all browsers render png as should)
3. Formating by dragging the frame with your mouse
4. Save and click on the picture to confirm its attachment to the email address.
You may load multiple pictures and change once in a while your display. You also may add multiple email addresses to your Gravatar account using different pictures on each and vary your look in function of your mood, target or purpose; for example a picture of you linked to your private mail address and a logo of your business linked to your business address.
Image changes may not show immediately; it can take up to a few days.
That’s it, you have just given a face to your email address.
