Configure your YORGOO Blaster 8

Create Categories

The categories have two purposes: first they help us sort the content and second, their slug will be part of the URIs of each article; these slogs will also be translated into meta tags in the header of each article. Therefore they help us reaching our targets on Google.

1. From your Dashboard select ‘Manage’ and then ‘Categories’

2. Create Categories

You may create multiple categories in function of your targeted key-words. Here we create a category for ‘Contributors’ to our Site, to which we can drive posts originating from external sources.

Please note: The Category Name will appear on your Blog Page under categories, while the slug can be a completely different word which will be picked up by Robots. This means: The Visitor will see a Category Name appealing to him, while the slug is supposed to appeal to Google.

In most cases Name and Slug will be the same and by default the Script will create an identical slug if you omit filling in this field; the same applies if you create categories on the fly from your post or page editor or when you import posts which create corresponding categories automatically.

In short: don’t worry about it.

  1. … so far so good…
Now I wonder what’s happening with all the self-extracting categories in case this method is being used?
Should one work on them individually?

  2. If you refer to the automated category creation triggered by feeds then you could either channel each feed to just 1 category (Check Configuration Options) or when you get too many and it looks ugly, you could delete the display of categories in the sidebar by deleting from sidebar.php the followng lines:

    Categories in sidebar.php

This will do the trick. May be in a later edition we will switch to a drop down box.

  3. Hi – here’s a funny one… as I have set my site to automatically create categories… shouldn’t the same of ONE category go into ONE category instead of recreating themselves? Look at this one:

Best Price Compare Price Original Brand Products Origin (1)

    on my blog here: http://www.smartbidtips.net/new/

    Hmmm…

  4. Bianca, this is clearly a misconfiguration on your side. I could imagine that in your Syndication options you have omitted to configure the use of multiple categories or entered a wrong code allowing the use of multiple categories; type ‘\s’ without the quotes and it should work. Please let me know if that helps, thanks.

  5. The /s was there – not the \s – I corrected and hope it’s all fine. Thanks

  6. Hi

I created my own categories – as I’m promoting accommodation for the 2010 soccer worldcup.

At present the following categories is on:
    auction marketing
    best price
    dubli
    dublicator best price
    HOW DO I REMOVE THESE.

I tried to remove them but when I view my blog they are still showing.

    Thanks

  7. Helena, just delete the categories from the Dashboard, Manage, Categories tab. If you still see the categories it may be due to caching. Just refresh your browser a few times and they should be gone or delete your cookies and temporary internet files from Browser, Tools, Internet Options.
